As many of you know I’ve been involved with Sweet Adelines for the past 20 years and it seems to be one of the best kept secrets…anywhere. So it’s always great information when I find that the singers in this organization are involved in a production of this scale.
One of the best things about the organization is that it give the singer in you a place to continue to use that gift for years to come. Some of our members are between 80-100 and they do perform, compete and even win on an international stage.
You can see some fine performances from the recent Sweet Adelines International competition – just click here.
This is from the group in Sydney Australia, from Lea Baker, Director of Endeavour Harmony (Region #34 Champs) and she passed on this information:
- Most of Endeavour Harmony Chorus, and Circular Keys Chorus (Region #34 2nd place medalists) as well as many of our family and friends were involved in recording songs for "Happy Feet" – Circular Keys
chorus was also there. All up probably around 300 people. We recorded the "mass sing" segment at the very beginning of the movie when all the penguins are doing their own mating call (when we were asked to all sing our own individual favorite love song) and we also recorded Stevie Wonders song "I Wish". We also did a clap and a stamp of the feet. - The recording was done at Fox Studio’s in Sydney, apparently most of the movie’s music was recorded in Sydney. It was a great day and the process was very interesting. They recorded the song "I wish" literally bar by bar, counting us in each time, so the beat was correct.
If you get a chance to visit or hear a chorus in your area – do so. If you are in the Los Angeles, CA, Scottsdale, AZ, Dallas, TX (home of the current International Champion Chorus, The Rich-Tones), Chicago, IL or Toronto, Ontario CN area you will hear some of the most recent winners of the International competitions and yes folks it means it will be one of the best shows you’ve seen in a long time!
